Since September 2024 I have been employed in the University of Vaasa as a University lecturer, where I am teaching a wide range of classes from research methods to digital media and media analysis.

In 2023-2024 I was a post-doctoral researcher in the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences, Tampere University. In the KODA research project, we studied the changing practices of film and television productions in a platform economy, focusing especially on the agency of data in Finnish film and television productions. Results of the study were published, for example, in Critical Studies in Television (Sage).

I defended my doctoral thesis in Media Studies in September 2020. In my thesis “Prekarisaation tunnemaisema – Vastustavat taktiikat, tunnelmat ja elämänpolitiikka verkon julkisuudessa”, I studied questions of intimacy and anonymous online communication, the societal significance of anonymously used forums, and the different operational logics of anonymous online spaces and social media platforms.

Previously I worked as post-doctoral researcher in the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Tampere in the Flows of Power project (Academy of Finland 2019–2022), where we investigated the agency of journalistic media in the flows of information, public opinion and power. I have worked as a researcher in Tampere University for more than ten years, in several research projects ranging from journalistic work to political communication and visual culture.

I value research integrity, friendliness, and collaboration. I firmly believe that good science is not built on competition, but collaboration and sharing. To me, knowledge is a cumulative process and I value open science initiatives, both in publishing and in data practices. I also base my teaching philosophy on discovery and collaboration. I’m hoping to find a friendly and collaborative environment also in my future research groups.
